Choosing an intermediate vocational education with a professional MBO Career Test

MBO stands for Secondary Vocational Education. At MBO level, students can follow a wide range of vocational programmes at secondary level, focused on practical skills and direct employability. Every year, approximately one million students are enrolled in an MBO course in the Netherlands. These programmes are mainly offered by regional training centres, known as ROCs, spread across the country. You can start an MBO programme if you have completed at least a VMBO education or if you have successfully passed an admission test.

Because MBO programmes are strongly practice oriented, it is important that students choose a direction that matches their interests, personality and cognitive level. Many educational institutions therefore use tools such as a 4 color personality test to gain insight into behavioural preferences and motivation. In addition, a cognitive ability test can help determine whether a student has the learning capacity required for a specific vocational pathway and level.

What are MBO professions?

The MBO courses train you for professions where you will do more executive work. MBO professions are therefore often practical professions. HBO programs are often also practical, but there is also more theory involved. With more work experience, someone with an MBO diploma can progress to managerial positions.
